2008 August 12Invention: Indoor Shutter Planters

These glorified plant racks would likely be made of heavy gauge steel wire or some other material that would make them sturdy but lightweight while packed full of potted plants. A few pipe segments welded to one edgeof the rack would fit over paired posts secured to the edge of a window frame, making a hinge. Once full of plants, the whole thing can be swung to cover the window for privacy or opened to enjoy the view. The plants get the benefit of maximum sunlight available to a room and the humans get a oxygenating herb farm and privacy screen.

Arrived by jet in new york this evening. Flew in from detroit via chicago. I was out visiting my sister and her family for the extended fourth holiday weekend. I swam all morning with my nephews and a couple of their neighborhood friends. I was ferrying them around the pool, bouncing them up into the air, filling their squirtguns, etc. Doting uncle stuff. Then my brother-in-law drove me to the airport stopping off to show me the stamping facility where most of his accounts are. It is an enormous building where rolls of sheet steel go in, and out come car doors and truck bodies. You could fit several high schools in there. He sells these giant turntables that float on air, so you can have thousands of pounds of stamped steel pieces spin around with a gentle push of your hand. He even let me operate one of the grabbers briefly. If you ever have a chance to check out an auto parts plant I would highly recommend it.
